Job Description




Summary

The Investigator is a licensed peace officer certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. An extensive background in all aspects of law enforcement enables the investigator to perform a myriad of duties required of the position. The highest level of professionalism and discretion is a priority due to the investigator\'s public duties and the sensitive nature of some cases filed with the District Attorney\'s Office.

Essential Duties

  • Perform all duties as a Peace Officer according to the law.
  • Identify and locate victims and/or witnesses conduct follow-up interviews.
  • Apply for and serve subpoenas.
  • Notify law enforcement personnel/witnesses of trial proceedings and dates.
  • Conduct criminal history checks on all State\'s prospective jurors, witnesses and defendant.
  • Assist prosecutor in jury selection process.
  • Set-up trial exhibits, audio and video equipment.
  • Testify as expert witness, if called.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be a licensed Peace Officer. Working knowledge of Texas laws and their applications; the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and the legal system in general. Must be familiar with software applications, such as Power Point, Word and Excel. Proficiency with firearms (safe operation), still and video cameras, and fingerprint techniques is expected. The investigator will communicate effectively and professionally in all dealings with parties involved in an investigation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY: Must possess excellent research and writing skills and a strong ability to communicate and get along with others. Must possess sufficient common sense and skills combined to make important decisions on complex issues. Need to have basic computer and typing skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Physical and Environmental Requirements: The physical demands of this position are such that the individual must be able to lead all employees in the performance of their job. Assist law enforcement officers in the performance of their job, be able to assist in moving heavy objects, and accomplish other duties as they occur.
