Job Description

This job provides advanced level support and has specialized knowledge of criminal information programs and practices. The incumbent assists in criminal investigations through computerized research activities.



You will be responsible for receiving, processing, and responding to information requests from allied law enforcement agencies, providing authorized agencies with necessary information, and ensuring the accurate management of sensitive records. This role requires diligence and a high level of responsibility regarding confidential criminal history data.

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS)

:

Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System. Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. + Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
+ Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off

:

Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick). Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.

Responsibilities

Searches, retrieves, and/or researches public and private records in accordance with applicable state and federal laws governing access to these records. Enters data into a computer system and retrieves, corrects, or deletes previously entered data. Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents, and/or other written materials. Performs initial background and history research on individual(s) being investigated, as well as screens, composes, and/or controls sensitive data/documentation. Ensures that agency and/or state records are properly classified, processed, and controlled. Maintains accurate records and logs. Incumbents may also examine, classify, and compare fingerprints to perform criminal history checks and/or identify suspects in criminal investigations, and prepare fingerprint cards for the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Qualifications

Background Investigation:

Must be able to pass a

thorough background investigation

. Incumbents have access to criminal history files and, in accordance with policy, must undergo a

level II background investigation

prior to employment.

BCI Certification:

Must pass the

Utah Bureau of Identification (BCI) Proficiency test

within the probationary period and maintain certification thereafter. Incumbents work with BCI systems daily.
