The following duties

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

Operates a variety of specialized vehicles and heavy equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures in order to maintain safe Park and City facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment. Leads the work of others while following all safety regulations, policies and direction from the Foreman in a positive, professional and harmonious manor. Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on trucks and heavy equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems and damage. Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and various construction and maintenance equipment, including but not limited to a chain saw, weed eater, dump truck, backhoe, skid steer loader, front end loader, mini excavator, large area mowers, tractors, shredder, and equipment haul truck in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures. Assists with coordination of work crews performing activities according to work schedule; monitors task completion; assures that all safety rules and regulations are observed. Hauls materials, and transports vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks. Loads and unloads materials using power equipment. Performs skilled and semiskilled construction, maintenance, and repair work on all City owned facilities and properties as directed. Completes daily logs and ensures assigned team members complete required paperwork and reports as required. Performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed. Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries. Train staff on operating heavy equipment. Read and comprehend blueprints/plans. Supervise and direct the work crew on a regular basis and in absence of the Foreman. Provides customer service and explains City programs and procedures to the general public. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:



Education and Experience:



High School diploma or GED equivalent, AND three (3) years work experience operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstration or testing of skills may be required. Have experience in successfully leading and supervising the work of others. At least 2 years work experience with irrigation maintenance or installation.

Required Licenses or Certifications:



Must possess a valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain a Class A CDL within (90) days. Must possess and maintain two (2) approved certifications to be used by the City or obtain withing ( 90) days Must possess an Irrigator license (IR) or Irrigation tech license (IT) or obtain a license within (90) days.

Required Knowledge of:



City policies and procedures. Basic tools and equipment used in street, drainage, facilities and grounds maintenance and construction. Traffic laws and rules for vehicle and equipment operation. Occupational hazards and safety precautions in using heavy equipment. Operation, maintenance and repair standards for motorized equipment and vehicles. City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions. Federal and state safety laws and regulations, including drug and alcohol testing guidelines for CDL. Local and regional traffic patterns, road systems, and the locations of landmarks and buildings. Materials, methods, and practices used in park maintenance. Two wire irrigation systems operation

Required Skill in:



Working independently or as a team to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Promoting and enforcing safe work practices. Participate in supervisor weekend rotations, and special events. Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and motorized equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures. Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City employees and the public. Identifying mechanical problems. Minimum 2-year experience Irrigation maintenance or installation.



Your Work Environment:



Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment, requires constant physical efforts for extended periods, and ability to safely lift, carry and move items weighing up to eighty (80) pounds. May be required to work immediately before, during or immediately after an emergency or disaster.
