Summary:

The 5th Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for the court reporter openings with the following Judges:

  • Hon. Judge Nelmark, District Judge (Polk County - 140181)
  • Hon. Judge Belcher , District Associate Judge (Polk County)
  • Hon. Judge Crane, District Judge (Polk County - 140179)
  • Hon. Judge Porter, District Judge (Polk County 111957)
  • Hon. Judge Lauber, District Judge (Polk County - 111952 part-time)
  • Hon. Judge Franklin, District Associate Judge (Wayne County - 111927)
  • Hon. Judge Greenwood, District Judge (Decatur County - 111941)
  • Hon. Judge Howe, District Associate Judge Juvenile Courts
  • Hon. Judge Scott, District Court Judge (Polk County - 111931)
  • Hon. Judge McAllister, District Judge (Polk County - 111929)
  • Hon. Judge Heffner, District Court Judge (Polk County)
Responsibilities:
Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Captures court testimony and proceedings with stenography machine.
  • Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request.
  • Prepares transcripts, performs general office work.
  • Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings.
  • Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee.
  • Electronic document filing required in all counites within District 5.
  • May be required to work for any Judicial Officer in the 5th District per operational needs.
  • May require travel

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law.

Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters or become certified within one (1) year of hire.
