The incumbent of this position serves as the Assistant Warden over the Statewide Classification Program for the facility and the Adult Reception Diagnostic Center for inmates being taken into the DOC system from local facilities and other institutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises plus one of the following:
1. Six years of full-time experience in any field; or
2. A bachelor's degree.
OR
A master's degree plus three years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises; OR
A doctorate plus two years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:

• Plans, closely monitors and directs all phases of the Corrections Classification Program for adult facility population, Adult Reception and Diagnostic Center, Transfer Office, and the Pre-Classification/Sentence Computation Office. Formulate policies and procedures related to the statewide Corrections Classification and Sentence Computation Programs.

• Administer the ARDC entire process with responsibility for the legality of commitment and release of inmates within the Adult Correctional System.

• Administers and oversees all functions dealing with the inter-institutional transfer of Department inmates, the transfer of Department inmates from the physical custody of the Parish Jails into the department's custody, Police Maintenance program transfers, return of Parish Facility transfer, Work Release Program transfer, medical transfers, Mental Health transfers, and requests for furloughs.

• Works closely with Sheriffs and Jail Administrators to assist them in the identification and efficient transfer special needs inmates into the Department's custody, and/or with over-crowding situations in the Parish Jail. Oversees the process by which Parish Jail quotas of inmates to be transferred into the physical custody of the Department are determined and implemented.

• Initiates, receives, investigates, and responds to telephone calls and correspondence from public/elected officials on behalf of their constituents. Such requests usually deal with requests for transfers to geographically appropriate facilities, work release facilities, Police Departments, Parish Jails, visiting and protection concerns, and furlough consideration. Respond to inquiries from appointed officials.

• Reviews recommendations for work release or medical furlough from Wardens and/or Parole Board to determine technical eligibility and suitability and technical eligibility of work release recommendations of inmates in Parish Jails in accordance with Department Regulations.

Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

• The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
