Description of Work Salary Range:
$41,655 - $72,897
Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Manager III, this position is responsible for the supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers and offenders performing large-scale food production/food operations at a multi-level custody prison facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervising staff and offenders in the preparation and serving of food to the offender population.
- Using a computerized food and nutrition system to prepare and serve daily meals.
- Performing responsibilities in all phases of food management, food procurement and storage, menu planning for substitutions, food preparation and service, sanitation, and record keeping.
- Making adjustments in feeding schedules and special diets which result from moderate shifts in offender populations.
- Working independently and under limited supervision with the ability to comprehend/abide by policy, post orders, standard operating procedures, emergency plans, and other directives governing daily activities.
- Ensuring food management operations and work performance through inspections and analysis of reports.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

• Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities
• Documented supervision of employees and/or offender workers

The salary grade for this position is NC10. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Southern Correctional Institution is located in Troy, North Carolina and houses up to 700 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer

Three years as a Correctional Food Service Officer
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
