Description of Work Salary Range:
$39,671 - $69,426
Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Manager III, this position serves as the manager of a food service operation and is responsible for planning, directing, supervising the preparation of food, and serving of food to offenders at a large correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervising staff and offenders and the performance of responsibilities in all phases of food management. Managing food procurement, preparation, storage, and sanitation of a food service section while abiding by current health regulations.
- Providing menu planning for substitutions, adjusting feeding schedules and special diets, which result from moderate shifts in offender populations.
- Maintaining records and reports, planning and managing a large food service operation within a budget. Analyzing work performance through inspections and reports.
- Comprehending and abiding by policy, post orders, standard operating procedures, emergency plans, and other directives governing daily activities.
- Analyzing food management operations and evaluating needs and/or improvements to the work process
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities
  • Documented supervision of employees and/or offender workers

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations,

Two years as a Correctional Food Service Supervisor

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
