Description of Work This Correction Training Coordinator I position is assigned to the Samarcand Training Academy in Jackson Springs, NC (Moore County).
The Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) provides training for employees across the Department of Adult Corrections. OSDT has a staff of 100 instructors and support personnel who deliver basic training to correction and probation officers. The office also leads firearms training, leadership education programs, general instructor training, other specialized classes, and manages the delivery of the annual in-service training for more than 16,000 certified employees.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Writing course plans and objectives, reviewing, revising, and developing lesson plans and training materials.
- Delivering instruction independently and instructing as a member of an instructional team in accordance with approved training materials and methodology.
- Researching materials for course development, developing courses strategies and objectives, modifying course content, and participating in evaluation of courses.
Work is performed both independently and as a member of a training team with minimum supervision. This position reports to a Correction Training Instructor and is subject to review and evaluation through reports, student feedback, and stakeholders. Employees in this position will be required to obtain additional instructional certifications as required.
Weekend hours, extended hours, overnight travel, extended travel and overnight stays at remote locations for extended periods of up to eight weeks are required. Employees in this position will be required to obtain additional instructional certifications as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $45,926 - $80,369
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Management Preferences (preferred but not required):

  • Certification in Firearms and/or Controls, Restraints, Defensive Techniques (CRDT)specialty certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedures, practices and operation of North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections
  • Crafting and executing PowerPoint presentations, as well as creating word documents
Additional Consideration Requirements:
  • Current General Instructor certification with the ability to maintain any and all additional certifications required by OSDT, NCDAC, and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Certification in Firearms and/or CRDT specialty certification with the condition of attaining the remaining specialty within 6 months of the start date.

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience directly related to instruction and training, including one year in an administrative or coordinative capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge.
