The Engineering Manager is a critical leadership role for Global Safety Business, reporting to the S&E Director and acting as a key Leadership Team member. S/He will successfully provide strategic guidance and ensure tactical execution to meet or exceed the business\'s Engineering goals and objectives. Towards these goals, the successful leader will contribute to the design of new value-added products, execute together with the team the APQP processes for customer projects within the required time and budgets, develop and motivate a high-performing team, demonstrate discipline in the execution and continuous improvement of our engineering processes and support the teams through the implementation of KPIs and -necessary investments in critical tools. Additionally, this leader will be a steward of the ITW Business Model and demonstrate key attributes of the ITW Leadership Expectations, Values & Culture.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: may include some of the following. Other duties may be assigned.

DESIGN

  • Leads the Engineering team through the design, development, testing and implementation of new products and product changes for Active and Passive Safety components in North America
  • Ensures that product designs or design changes proposed by the Engineering or Operations team meet customer requirements and are design-feasible within the manufacturing, quality, and commercial requirements
  • Participates in regular product/application discussions, workshops and other events with external customers, Project Managers, and Engineering teams from NA and other regions
INNOVATION
  • Business partner for the Innovation team to understand customer pain points and market trends, to identify value propositions for new product / application opportunities and to review all Patent applications
APQP
  • Own the APQP processes for NA, ensures process compliance for all projects and guides the Engineering team and the cross functional teams to update and release the required APQP documents to support Customer launches (i.e.: Design requirements, CAD models, Drawings, Feasibility Documents, GD&T, Prototype tooling and parts, Key Product Characteristic, Tolerance stack up, CAE activities, Engineering specifications, PFMEAs, DVP testing, application guidance, etc.)
  • Supports and drives the meaningful metrics for projects; track KPI progress and advise/update all key stakeholders on a regular basis
SUPPORT ORGANIC GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES
  • Works with the Sales Leaders for Active and Passive Safety to translate the Organic Growth Strategies into Annual and Long-Range Plan needs, that ensure business\'s ability to meet or exceed organic growth and profitability goals
  • Works closely with the Global Sales & Engineering Director, Global Active Sales Manager and KAM\'s to develop current/new customer base by providing technical solutions
  • Prepares and reviews cost models with the Engineering team and Operations, so that the Sales Teams can take them as basis for the Quotations for Passive and Active Safety in North America
LEADERSHIP
  • Executes organic growth strategy for Active and Passive Safety through the development of a high-performing, cross-functional team that consistently meets or exceeds expectations with a focus on talent development through structured competency models, talent acquisition and inclusive leadership founded in ITW Culture and Values and Leadership Development Framework
  • Drives enterprise strategy and continuous improvement culture throughout the team by using ITW Toolbox to simplify the processes and meet cost improvements and growth targets.
  • Champions the ITW Leadership Development framework and demonstrates personal effectiveness and leadership that creates a culture of high performance
Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years\' experience with engineering in the automotive industry; proficiency in plastic manufacturing, printing, or electromechanical integration of Active Safety components is a plus.
  • At least 3 years\' experience in an engineering or innovation management role; demonstrated experience managing more than one function is a plus.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and build high performing teams in an intercultural environment that meet and exceed expectations
  • Solid MS Excel abilities including working knowledge of budgeting and planning and both short and long-term planning.
  • Solid technical skills, including part design, mechanical engineering, DFMEA, PFMEA and root-cause analysis
  • Profound customer understanding and ability to translate customer pain points into value added solutions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including MS PowerPoint, verbal and written, to meet a variety of stakeholder communication needs and at a variety of levels
  • Excellent leadership presence.
  • Drives an Enterprise first, global mindset when collaborating with other ITW divisions in other regions
  • 80/20 Mindset
  • Bachelor\'s degree from a four-year university or equivalent ITW experience; mechatronic or electrical engineering degree preferred.
  • Willing to travel up to 30%; both domestic and internationally
