Job Overview



We are seeking a full-time Controller to lead and oversee our organization's financial operations. As the company's Controller, you will be responsible for the management of all financial accounting functions including general ledger oversight, payroll, financial planning, budgeting, reporting and forecasting. You will make strategic recommendations to the leadership team and will be the primary contact with external tax accountants, business insurances and 401(k) brokers. This position requires a detail-oriented, highly organized professional who can balance multiple priorities while maintaining strong communication across all levels of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES



? Lead and continuously enhance the company's financial strategy through effective planning, budgeting, and forecasting.

? Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial statements and reporting packages to senior leadership.

? Monitor and manage cash flow to support business operations and growth.

? Update and maintain the annual budget and all associated financial reporting, including weekly cash flow summaries, monthly forecasting, and annual income statements.

? Maintain and improve policies and procedures to ensure the company operates efficiently and effectively from a financial perspective.

? Identify and recommend finance-related technologies or systems that improve accuracy, efficiency, and cost control.

? Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, and ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.

? Manage all payroll processes, payroll tax filings, W-2 preparation, and multi-state tax reporting; Paylocity experience is highly preferred.

? Train, supervise and mentor accounting staff responsible for AP, AR, credit cards, banking, payroll processing, reconciliations, and invoice accuracy.

? Administer corporate credit card programs, including issuing new cards when appropriate.

? Oversee annual 1099 reporting.

? Manage financial operations for the organization's Non-Profit entity, ensuring full regulatory compliance.

? Maintain productive relationships with external banking, tax, legal, and insurance partners; oversee filings, claims, audits, and payment schedules.

? Oversee business insurance audits, 401(k) administration, and HR-related compliance.

? Occasional travel to events or satellite offices in California and Georgia is required.

QUALIFICATIONS



? Bachelor's Degree in in Accounting, Finance or related field

? Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting or financial management experience preferred.

? Prior experience with Paylocity or similar payroll systems is a strong advantage.

? Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, reliability, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality.

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.

? Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting principles, and financial regulations.

? Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace. Note: KAR is a Mac-based environment, and applicants must be comfortable working with Mac systems.

? Must be able to handle a heavy payroll schedule and be flexible to a changing environment, acknowledging urgency when necessary

? Candidate must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; exceptional organizational and research skills are required with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to meet designated deadlines is critical

? Critical thinking ability to independently analyze information and solve problems

? MUST be a team player with the ability to work independently. Must be positive, helpful and have a can-do attitude with a willingness to work beyond designated hours to complete assignments.

? Ability to effectively present information to top management, clients, vendors and/or co-workers

? Ability to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job function

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS



? Strong aptitude with numbers and basic calculations

? Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
