The Controller will play a key role in managing cash flow, job costing, and overall financial integrity across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain
cash flow forecasts
, and provide analysis on
accounts receivable
and
accounts payable
.
Manage
job costing
processes -- reviewing charges for accuracy, performing monthly closeouts, and generating profit/loss reports.
Conduct detailed reviews during
month-end close
to ensure all financial statements are complete and accurate.
Oversee
sales tax filings
across multiple states using automated tax tools (e.g., Avalara or similar systems).
Coordinate with
external accountants
on federal and state tax filings and year-end financial statements.
Prepare
financial reporting
for subcontracted or government-related projects as required.
Contribute to
strategic financial planning
, including accounting system optimization, banking, and tax strategy.
Develop, document, and implement
policies, procedures, and internal controls
to support operational scalability.
Lead
process improvement initiatives
to streamline accounting and reporting functions, including system upgrades or module integrations.
Provide
coverage for bookkeeping and purchasing
tasks during high-volume or vacation periods.
Participate in other
ad hoc financial projects
as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
10+ years
of progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, job costing, and forecasting.
Strong understanding of
U.S. GAAP
and best practices in corporate accounting.
Proven background in
job costing
,
financial reporting
, and
month-end close
processes.
Proficiency with
QuickBooks/QBO
or similar accounting platforms; experience with system conversion or implementation is highly desirable.
Advanced Excel skills
and strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Strong analytical mindset and a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Experience
CPA certification
or active CPA track is a plus.
Background in
construction, contracting, or other project-based environments
preferred.
Prior experience in a
high-growth or startup setting
highly valued.
Experience negotiating vendor or service agreements is advantageous.
