SALARY

: Pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.



EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and KCS G48A.



JOB SUMMARY:

The Title I Behavior Interventionist supports positive student behavior and academic success by providing targeted interventions and strategies for students in need of behavioral and social-emotional support. This position works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families to implement behavior plans, monitor progress, and promote a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment aligned with Title I goals.



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


+ Serve as the first responder to behavioral incidents to ensure student and staff safety.
+ Utilize de-escalation techniques to calm students and prevent escalation of disruptive or unsafe behaviors.
+ Identify potential triggers or patterns that may lead to problem behaviors.
+ Facilitate social-emotional learning (SEL) and self-regulation skill-building opportunities for students.
+ Assist in the creation and implementation of individualized behavior plans.
+ Collect and analyze behavior data to inform adjustments and monitor student progress.
+ Understanding of child development, trauma-informed practices, and de-escalation techniques.
+ Familiarity with multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) or positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).
+ Partner with teachers, instructional aides, and support staff to design and implement proactive classroom management strategies.
+ Teach and monitor crisis management/intervention strategies
+ Conduct observations looking for behavior triggers in the classroom
+ Work closely with the administration to develop and implement a school-wide PBIS system
+ Have knowledge about child development and learning theories
+ Have knowledge about trauma, ACEs, and the impact of trauma on behavior and learning
+ Possess physical, mental, and emotional stamina to endure high stress conditions







QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code 18A-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c and/or 18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code 18A-3-2a.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
