The Construction Project Engineer IV will perform advanced-level engineering duties associated with the construction of civil engineering projects. They will also perform advanced-level project management functions. This position will support all aspects of construction projects for roadways, bridges, utilities, sewers, facilities, etc.; performs oversight and inspection of contractor activities; interprets plans and specifications and ensures work is performed in accordance with them; documents field activities; measures and calculates quantities of work completed; observes materials testing and ensures proper materials are incorporated into the work; leads development of cost proposals for moderate to advanced-complexity projects; leads monitoring of project budget and staff assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - SPECIFIC
Understands and interprets project plans and specifications
Performs daily inspection and/or oversight of contractor's activities to ensure all work is performed in accordance with the project plans and specifications
Documents field activities and submits daily reports
Measures and calculates quantities of completed work
Observes materials testing at a construction site
Ensures proper materials are incorporated into the work
Performs schedule review, submittal review, RFI responses, and maintaining project records and filing system
Generates pay estimates, extra work orders, and cost estimates
Reports task related information to the Project Lead
Independently manages time and schedule to achieve multiple project milestones
Leads project related meetings
Manages tasks and/or projects of moderate to advanced complexity
May act in the role of Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer, or Documentation Engineer; may assist the Project Lead with other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.
Licensure:
Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Typically 20+ years of experience required.

Technical Skills:
Advanced engineering skills.Ability to read and interpret plans and mentally visualize them. Have the foresight to recognize potential construction issues in the field and bring them to the attention of appropriate parties for resolution. Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and Bluebeam. Advanced experience with project scheduling. Advanced background in and knowledge of local government agency standards and databases, specifically, IDOT, CDOT, and the Tollway preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the work of less experienced staff; leads tasks and/or projects of advanced complexity.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.
Working Environment:
This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and include exposure to all types of outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with construction. Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. Travel is required; must possess a valid license.
Continuing Education:
Complete state-required competency. Attend job-related seminars and workshops.
Salary Range:
$131,000 - $140,000
