Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking one (1) Construction Maintenance Equipment Operator (CMEO) to work in the Water division. This position will operate equipment to perform tasks related to the construction, maintenance and repair of the water distribution system.

Job Responsibilities

Operates backhoes, wheel loaders, roller/compactor, rubber tire side boom mower, forklift, and dump truck with trailer Performs daily preventative maintenance checks and services; cleans equipment checks oil, lubricate/grease machine, check water, check tire pressure, clean windows, and washes off dirt and grease Inspects job site for underground utilities, overhead obstructions, hazardous conditions: powerlines, hazardous trees, etc. Excavate holes, trenches, stockpile material, clear roads, clean ditches, load material in dump trucks, cut brush along roadway and other related activities Drive dump truck with trailer to transport equipment to and from job sites Ensure safety measures are observed when loading and unloading material and equipment May be required to act in a lead capacity at job sites where all other activities are secondary to equipment operation Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:



One (1) year experience in equipment operation and maintenance or completion of a recognized course in construction and maintenance equipment operation, including practical operating experience and instruction in mechanical principles and general construction and maintenance procedures (Combination of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).



License, Certification and Other Requirements:



Must be able to obtain Washington State Commercial Class A driver's license with the Air Brake restriction removed, tanker endorsement, manual transmission endorsement, fifth wheel endorsement, within six (6) months of hire. Training and certification will be provided by SPU for selected candidates

Work Environment/Physical Demands:



Work Environment/Physical Demands: May be asked to report to any of the four current work locations operated by the Water Operations Division. Must be willing to work all shifts, including weekends, evenings, nights and/or holidays as required. Works outdoors in all weather. Exposed to dust, dirt, high noise levels, diesel fumes, gas fumes, and engine exhaust. Moderate physical exertion required to operate equipment. Standing, bending, stooping, and lifting in excess of 50 pounds sometimes required. Teleworking is not applicable to these positions. An interview and working test will be administered as part of the selection process.

The full salary range for this position is $41.25 - $44.74 per hour.
