Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Estimator with deep self-perform carpentry expertise to take ownership of one of the most critical cost centers within a growing commercial builder. This role offers the opportunity to modernize the estimating process, mentor project teams, and contribute directly to the long-term success of a family-run construction firm.

  • Lead self-perform carpentry estimating including takeoffs, labor productivity, unit pricing, and material budgets
  • Prepare complete bid proposals for public and private sector projects
  • Build and maintain historical cost data, pricing databases, and standardized estimating systems
  • Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, addenda, and site conditions to create accurate scopes
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to improve consistency and reduce estimating risk
  • Support full GC bids and help assemble competitive pricing packages
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes when needed
  • Contribute to the company's long-term strategic estimating direction during a leadership transition
  • Partner with ownership to refine bid strategy and perform value engineering

Lead the entire carpentry estimating functionLong-term growth with next-generation leadership
A successful Estimator should have:
  • 10+ years of commercial estimating experience with strong self-perform carpentry background
  • Expert in unit pricing, labor productivity, and detailed takeoff processes
  • Ability to assemble complete bid packages and train PMs in estimating fundamentals
  • Comfortable working in a family-oriented, hands-on environment
  • Experience with public-sector bidding (schools, municipal, higher ed) preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills
  • Proficient with digital takeoff tools and estimating software (OST, Procore Estimating, Excel)
  • A long-term mindset with interest in growing alongside next-generation leadership
