About Us
The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction, purchasing and contracting for goods and services, maintaining facilities, managing state vehicles, acquiring and disposing of real property, and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally, the department manages many of the state's advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the state's population that have been traditionally underserved.

Division: State Construction
Job Duties: The State Construction Office oversees the planning, design, and construction of vertical construction (building) projects for State Agencies, Universities, and Community Colleges. The Intern will be assigned to one, or both, of the following sections: The Construction Management group, which administers construction contracts; the Facilities Conditions & Assessment Program (FCAP), which evaluates the repair and renovation needs of all State
buildings greater than 3,000 square feet.
Major Task to be Performed: Depending on preference and background, the intern will perform one, or both, of the following: Assist the Wake County construction monitor by attending job site meetings, inspection of active construction projects, advising contractors and designers, and overseeing building acceptance; Assist the FCAP group with existing building assessments in the field, cost estimating exercises, and deficiency reports.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: The successful delivery of construction projects and/or building inspections. General exposure to the public construction process in North Carolina.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
A general understanding of building systems such as architectural, structural,
mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or fire protection. Familiarity with NC Building Codes preferred but not required.
