SMSI, LLC is seeking a Construction Engineer to provide support to more experienced construction engineering personnel by performing routine construction engineering assignments at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Assigned to a discipline position within the Construction Management Division in an administrative or technical capacity. Completes assigned tasks under routine supervision and technical direction. The need is immediate. Position is direct hire and is a full-time position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, , and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
• Prepares checklists and other project documents.
• Prepares material requisitions, as assigned.
• Reviews Work Packages for completeness.
• Reviews project design and engineering documents to ensure their completeness.
• Inspects construction work for compliance with drawings, specifications and codes.
• Prepares Field Change Requests, as assigned.
• Maintains records of quantities and construction inspection work, and may prepare material and installation portions of subcontract bid packages.
• Prepares daily progress reports and keeps supervisors informed on progress of assigned tasks.
• Monitors the cost versus budget performance during construction, as assigned.
• Assists in tracking of deficiencies, as directed.
• Assists the Senior Construction Engineers in their functions and performs tasks as directed.
• Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor s Degree in an Engineering or Scientific discipline from an accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of experience and education in an engineering in an engineering discipline or certification program. At this level, post-graduate course work may be expected.
• Educational training in general engineering techniques and procedures gained through courses in an engineering discipline or courses requiring extensive work in developing comprehensive end result products.
• Knowledge is normally acquired through:

• A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline OR
• Specialized courses in engineering disciplines AND/OR
• Work experience leading to a basic understanding of the technical knowledge described above.
