We are seeking a experienced and detail-oriented Construction Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of financial management, WIP, budgeting, and reporting, as well as experience in the construction industry. The Construction Controller will play a critical role in maintaining the financial health of our projects and supporting strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight & Reporting
Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including WIP.
Maintain job cost accounting systems and ensure accurate tracking of project-related costs.
Manage Lien waivers, Joint check payments, communications between vendors, clients and PMs.
Monitor cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger activity.
Develop and manage project-specific and company-wide budgets and forecasts.
Construction-Specific Accounting
Oversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and ensure accurate revenue recognition based on percentage-of-completion.
Ensure timely billing and collection of progress billings (AIA forms, if applicable).
Track subcontractor and vendor compliance, including lien waivers and insurance certificates.
Partner with project managers to analyze budget variances and profitability.
Assist with bid review and pricing strategies through financial input and historical data.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax regulations and licensing requirements.
Work with external auditors, banks, bonding agents, and insurance brokers.
Manage internal controls to safeguard company assets and data integrity.
Support preparation of insurance audits, workers' compensation audits, and financial reviews.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor accounting staff, promoting professional development and process improvement.
Month end process including validations of accounts payable and receivable across projects.
Implement financial systems and technology upgrades as needed.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Estimating, and HR teams to align on strategic goals.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience in the commercial construction industry.
Strong knowledge of construction accounting software QBO is required (Nice to have -e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, etc.).
Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and progress billing.
Skills & Competencies
In-depth knowledge of GAAP and construction-specific financial practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Proficient in Excel and financial modeling.
Effective communicator with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
Working Conditions:

Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary based on experience.
(95,000 to 140,000, negotiable)
