Summary Statement

This position will be responsible for applying conservation maintenance practices in support of the management of state forestland, primarily at Blackbird State Forest. Duties may include, but are not limited to, performing maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, carpentry, painting welding, construction, grounds maintenance, equipment, and vehicles. Incumbent must be able to operate most complex equipment and vehicles.\xef\xbf\xbd This position supervises multiple subordinates and constructs work plans for each. The incumbent will oversee our northern region fire cache and have responsibilities to the out of state fire coordination.\\r\

Essential Functions

Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\\r\ \\r\ Applies conservation and preservation principles and practices in support of the management of the state\'s natural resources which includes such activities as propagating, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting and care of trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns and crops to include turf/grounds management, pest management, herbicide/fertilizer application, layout and design, assessment of soil composition and environmental conditions.\\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd \\r\ Performs maintenance and repairs in a variety of labor/trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, construction, grounds maintenance and assists higher level personnel on large scale projects.\\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd \\r\ Operates marine, land-based and construction equipment and vehicles. \\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd \\r\ Maintains and repairs a variety of equipment/vehicles.\\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd\xef\xbf\xbd\xef\xbf\xbd \\r\ Provides information to the public as requested or responds to inquiries regarding agency initiatives/programs.\\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd \\r\ Ensures the safe usage of state owned, managed, and/or maintained grounds and facilities by the public.\\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd \\r\ Completes standard forms/applications; maintains records and reports detailing daily activity, tool and equipment inventory, fuel and service logs and related activities. \\r\ \\r\

Job Requirements

\xef\xbf\xbdJOB REQUIREMENTS for\xef\xbf\xbdConservation Technician V\xef\xbf\xbd\\r\ Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\xef\xbf\xbd\xef\xbf\xbd\\r\ \\r\ \xef\xbf\xbd\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Department of Agriculture: \\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Three years experience in forest fire prevention and control.\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Three years experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Six months experience in forest management including dendrology, forest fire behavior and control, forest mensuration, timber harvesting, forest management plans, and using tools and equipment such as prisms, clinometers and increment borers.\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Six months experience in preventing, controlling and diagnosing tree insects and diseases.\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Six months experience in record keeping.\\r\ \\r\ Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others. \\r\ Possession of a Delaware commercial pesticide applicator\'s certification card with Forestry and Turf/Ornamental classifications.\\r\ Possession of a valid CDL Class A Driver\'s License with tanker endorsement (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).\xef\xbf\xbd\\r\ \\r\
