ABOUT PETTICOAT-SCHMITT



We build life-changing infrastructure across the Southeast and are known for professionalism, communication, safety, and timeliness. We self-perform heavy civil work including public works, water resources, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), and site development.


ROLE SUMMARY



Lead a concrete/formwork crew, execute work to plans/specs, and serve as the crew's on-site safety leader. Plan from the project look-ahead, hit schedules, and train/cross-train your team.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



Lead a crew installing concrete forms and/or setting process equipment; act as Safety Manager for the crew. Execute concrete work per plans, specifications, and Superintendent directives. Apply millwright skills to set process equipment. Know the production schedule; plan daily work from the 4-week look-ahead and execute. Train and perform essential functions for any position on the carpentry crew. Identify, report, and correct hazards and near misses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (TECHNICAL)



Effective communication; strong construction math and grade calculations. Set up/use builder's level, rotary level, and total station. Rigging and hoisting; read/interpret crane charts (load & radius). Working knowledge of PSCC and OSHA rules; safe trenching. Basic IT: smartphone/tablet (forms, reports). Read/interpret plans, rebar shop drawings, and form system drawings. Assemble/cycle multiple form systems. Basic heavy equipment operation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



Stand for long periods; repetitive handling of materials and tools. Distinguish jobsite sounds (backup alarms, voices, equipment). Climb ladders, form systems, scaffolding; walk walls with fall protection. Lift up to 80 lbs.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY



Work inside/outside in all weather, varied locations, and times of day. Required PPE: hard hat, eye/ear protection, high-visibility apparel.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE



5+ years of heavy civil construction experience. High school diploma or equivalent. Competent Person, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Competent Scaffold Builder, and NPDES/Erosion Control training. Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills. Self-motivated; able to work independently and as a team player.

Safety first: zero recordables; proactive near-miss reporting and coaching. On-schedule, on-spec production aligned to look-ahead plans. Quality concrete work (alignment, rebar placement, tolerances, finishes). Properly planned picks (rigging, crane charts, permits). Crew development: training and cross-training that elevates team capability. Accurate paperwork: daily reports, inspections, JHAs, quantity tracking.
