The Essex Westford School District is seeking a Computer Technician/User Support Specialist to perform a variety of specialized computer installation and support functions. This position serves as a resource to classroom teachers and the educational environment to support the use of technology in the classroom around student learning. This is a very front-facing position, and a strong commitment to customer service, attention to detail, and organizational skills are keys to success. This position is expected to begin on July 1, 2023Skill development and training are provided for selected candidates! Selected candidates may be hired as Computer Technicians at level 1 or level 2 based on experience and skills. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, for 12 months per year. Candidates with additional experience in one or more of the following areas will be prioritized:
  • Data management skills and/or experience in data tools and development
  • Programming knowledge and experience with PHP, SQL, Javascript, or other languages used in developing online systems.
  • Powerschool SIS experience, either in back-end customization/functionality or other relevant school-based experience. Candidates should indicate any of the experiences above in their cover letter. Position responsibilities include:
    • Install and perform repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
    • Staff a centralized help desk a portion of each day (or week depending on the time of year) to facilitate the exchange of information and advice as requested.
    • Install, configure, and upgrade operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages
    • Troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, email, network, and peripheral equipment problems; make repairs and corrections where required.
    • Act as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data; implements solution or notify outsource providers as required. Actively check in with teachers and staff, being proactive about discovering and resolving technical issues that arise.
    • Confer with staff, users, and management to establish new systems or modifications requirements.
    • Assist Network Administrators with the planning, design, research, and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills-this position is very forward-facing and requires interacting regularly with a variety of school personnel.
    • Minimum of two years of directly related experience, including computer network experience. Technology integration in schools is preferred.
    • Experience or familiarity with PowerSchool SIS is helpful but not required.
    • Knowledge and ability to install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair applicable software, hardware, and peripherals.
    • Strong experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, projectors, large display monitors/ TVs, and other media systems.
    • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills
    • Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills
