Location: Henry Ford College, E Building, Room 172
Reports To: Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor
Job Type: Part-Time, 20 hours per week-some evening hours. Position is a 10-month per year. Employee is represented by DFSE and follows the yearly schedule established in the DPS-DFSE contract.
Job Summary:
This position provides mainly technical support for Adult Education administrators, staff, teachers, and students. The Computer Technician Specialist Administrative Data Assistant works in close collaboration with the Computer Technicians and support specialists at the DPS main offices in the Administrative Services Center (ASC) and with the HFC IT Department as needed.
:
Maintain inventory lists of PC laptops, Chromebooks, and Chromebook carts.
Troubleshoot technical issues as best as possible, referring many issues to the DPS IT dept or to the HFC IT dept, as required. For example:
Wi-fi connectivity
Students sign in to devices and to particular software, especially Burlington English
Printer issues at some of the remote teaching locations
Transporting devices to ASC for services and upgrades
Help promote Adult Ed programs and events via social media posts on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, and lay out flyers, brochures, posters (for example, the annual Graduation Ceremony brochure).
Attend monthly staff department meetings and other meetings as necessary
Assist with technical issues during Registration and Testing each semester. This may include time in classrooms helping students log in to Chromebooks.
Submit Help Desk Tickets online via the DPS and HFC websites.
Key Skills:
Ability to learn the basic workflow of Adult Education Department operations, schedules, and requirements.
Willingness to think through and solve problems and/or to propose solutions.
Basic user experience with desktop and laptop computers, and willingness to learn more technical aspects.
Basic user experience with Windows and Chrome operating systems, or the ability to learn.
Basic user experience or willingness to learn software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Canva.Additional Information
The Adult Education Computer Technician Specialist does not have the DPS network administrator powers, such as the authorization to install and remove software, initiate various upgrades, or adjust many network connections. That being said, there are key tasks that can be performed, such as troubleshooting or making basic connections to the school's Wi-Fi networks.
It is therefore essential to establish good contact and collaboration with the IT departments at DPS and HFC and to liaise with them to solve problems.
