JOB SUMMARY
The Children's Research Institute Metabolomics Facility at UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks an experienced bioinformatics programmer. We are searching for a candidate interested in working in a world-class metabolomics facility alongside a team of bioanalytical chemists, bioinformaticians, and biomedical scientists to build new tools for metabolite analysis. Duties for the position will include but are not limited to:
Development of custom data analysis tools for statistical analysis, QC validation, and raw mass spectrometry files
Design, implementation and maintenance of a website for the facility to host data analysis tools.
The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator and thrive in a highly collaborative environment. They will work closely with biological scientists at multiple levels of training. Programming experience in R and/or python is required. Familiarity with metabolomics data analysis tools like MetaboAnalyst is preferred. The position will involve full time work onsite at UT Southwestern with opportunities for authorship on scientific publications, learning mass spectrometry data analysis, and professional growth in computational biology.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
High School or GED and
plus successful completion of vocational training in computer programming
  • Experience
3 years in computer operation and/or programming and
1 year as Computer Programmer I or equivalent.
JOB DUTIES
  • Defines problems presented by other programmers or users or assists research and other personnel in defining problems for computer solutions, determining methods of approach, selecting, modifying, or writing new programs, and structuring data formats for solution of problems.
  • Studies assigned program descriptions.
  • Writes and test-runs programs, including preparation of all levels of documentation and flow-charts, computer instructions (code) and test data.
  • Documents procedures used throughout computer program.
  • Checks programs for logical sequence of machine operations and proper performance.
  • Modifies existing programs of moderate complexity as required to fit new circumstances.
  • Assists computer programmers in developing, testing, and revising programs.
  • Assists users and other programmers in use of special programs and techniques as required.
  • Provides working supervision to Computer Programmers of lower grade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
