Job Description

Position Summary:


Our client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented

Auto Dealer Comptroller

to manage and oversee the financial operations of our dealership. This key leadership role is responsible for accounting, budgeting, compliance, and financial reporting functions. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in dealership accounting, a strong understanding of automotive retail operations, and the ability to lead an accounting team to ensure the integrity and accuracy of all financial activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee all accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, payroll, inventory, and general ledger Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Ensure timely and accurate completion of the daily operating control (DOC) Monitor financial performance metrics, including gross profit, net profit, expense controls, and cash flow



Internal Controls & Compliance

Establish and enforce internal accounting policies and procedures Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (taxes, payroll, reporting, etc.) Maintain proper documentation for audits and assist with internal/external audits Stay current with automotive accounting best practices and industry standards



Budgeting & Forecasting

Work with management to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts Monitor departmental spending against budgets and report on variances Provide financial guidance to department managers to meet performance targets



Operational Support

Collaborate with the sales, service, and parts departments to ensure accurate financial tracking Manage cash flow, floor plan financing, and banking relationships Handle end-of-month processes, account reconciliations, and schedule reviews



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred) Minimum 5 years of automotive dealership accounting experience; 2+ years in a management or senior controller role In-depth knowledge of dealership accounting practices, including manufacturer financial statements Strong proficiency in DMS software (Automate) Solid understanding of state DMV requirements, sales tax, payroll, and title work Excellent leadership, organizational, and analytical skills High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail



Preferred Skills:

Experience with multi-rooftop operations (if applicable) Familiarity with floor plan management and factory incentives Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills

Office-based position in a dealership environment Standard business hours, with flexibility for month-end closing and occasional weekends * Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
