The Comptroller plays a key role in supporting the financial health and sustainability of the organization. This position oversees day-to-day accounting and financial operations, ensures accuracy and compliance with all financial reporting, and provides thoughtful guidance to help the organization achieve its mission. Working closely with the Executive Director and the Comptroller helps maintain transparency, strengthen internal systems, and oversees the organizations resources responsibly.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to support informed decision-making.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, tax laws, and other regulatory requirements.
Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, serving as a key liaison with external auditors.
Accounting Operations
Oversee daily accounting activities including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure reliable financial reporting.
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly closing activities with accuracy and timeliness.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with the Executive Director and program leaders to align resources with organizational goals.
Provide meaningful financial insights to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting a supportive and collaborative work environment.
Encourage professional development and help ensure staff have the tools and guidance needed to succeed.
Strategic & Operational Support
Advise Executive Director on financial strategies, risk management, and opportunities for process improvement.
Support the enhancement and automation of accounting systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
MUST HAVE
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of accounting and finance experience working within a Nonprofit.
Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
Proficiency with QuickBooks (or similar accounting software).
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
