OHRA is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that operates a full services resource center and shelter in Ashland, Oregon. OHRA's mission is to help low-income people build better lives. By offering hope and access to social service resources, we encourage those in need on the path to self-sufficiency.
This position is temporary beginning December 1st and ending June 31st, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent position if funding allows.
The Community Shelter Coordinator will lead the day-to-day operations of a Winter Shelter and an Emergency Shelter for a 30 to 50 bed facility in Ashland, Oregon. This position will also identify, recruit, and coordinate faith community activities that support the winter shelter guests.
The right person for this position has experience working with the unhoused population, has prior experience managing and scheduling staff, has excellent verbal and written communication skills, is comfortable presenting and speaking to groups and in meetings.
Primary Function
Responsible for supervising staff, coordinating volunteers and meals; ensuring compliance with the City of Ashland and OHRA Policies and Procedures, and forming/nurturing positive working relationships with co-workers, community leaders, city officials and the Ashland Police Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the operations of the City of Ashland Emergency Shelter.
Ensuring a clean and safe work environment for volunteers, staff, and shelter guests.
Coordinate with service providers to increase access to services at the COA Emergency Shelter offices to unhoused guests.
Support other Community Shelters in Ashland by being the point of contact with faith-based and service organizations who work with the unhoused in Ashland.
Develop and support faith-based organizations to support their efforts to increase shelter beds during the winter season.
Provide feedback to the navigation team and the Deputy Director about observed guest progress, guest interactions, and guest needs.
Train and manage the shelter staff, and also coordinate staff scheduling.
Offer known local resources to guests as needed.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience working with the unhoused population or a social services setting. Education may be substituted with 3 years of experience working with the unhoused in a social services setting.
A background in trauma-informed care and de-escalation training.
The ability to work as a collaborative and productive part of a team.
The ability to remain calm and de-escalate difficult situations when necessary.
