The CHNIIs provides comprehensive nurse assessments, treatment, care, and analysis in a variety of settings. CHNIIs are found across the department working together and as part of an integrated team in Aging and Disability Services, Behavioral Health and Crisis Services, Children, Youth and Family Services, Homeless Health Services and Public Health Services. While each program may have specific nursing tasks and activities associated with it, the main function is case management and client and patient documentation is primarily done in two IT systems, the NextGen electronic Health Record and the enterprise Integrated Case Management System.

CHNs working in clinical settings such as Tuberculosis, HIV/STD, substance abuse treatment and residential crisis beds as well as office and field settings for Adult Protective Services, Care Coordination, Maternal Child Health, Infants and Toddlers, Cancer Screening, and homeless shelters work closely with other licensed and non-license professionals.

Bilingual applicants in the Spanish/English languages are encouraged to apply. If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, he/she will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication, reading comprehension, and interpreting skills. For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination requiring translating text from Spanish to English and vice versa.

Work requires some exposure to infection and contagious disease, and involves some risk resulting from visits to clients\' homes, where clients or members of their households may react violently. Performance of this work involves occasional long periods standing or walking, and employees in this class occasionally lift and carry or move objects weighing up to fifty pounds; but obtain assistance when lifting or moving more than fifty pounds or applying equivalent forces.

Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-placement physical exam, drug, and alcohol screening. Some positions filled under this recruitment may require a criminal background check.

This position may be filled at the Community Health Nurse I, Grade 21 level $70,402 or the Community Health Nurse II, Grade 24 level ($77,273 - $85,566 hour).

Minimum Qualifications

Community Health Nurse I

Experience: None.

Education: Graduation from a National League for Nursing accredited college or university or an equivalent program as determined by the Maryland Board of Examiners with a Bachelor\'s Degree in nursing.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

License: Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland* issued by the Maryland Board of Examiners is required at the time of appointment. If the license is temporary, a regular Maryland RN license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this section.

Community Health Nurse II

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent post-licensure experience as a RN Nurse, one year of which must have been in nursing area of public health, community health, pediatrics, and/or maternal.

Education: Graduation from a National League for Nursing accredited college or university or an equivalent program as determined by the Maryland Board of Examiners with a Bachelor\'s Degree in Nursing. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

License:

Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Maryland State, of Maryland issued by the Maryland Board of Examiners is required at the time of appointment. If the license is temporary, a regular Maryland RN license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of appointment.

The State of Maryland accepts as valid the current RN licensure from a candidate\'s primary state of residence if that state has an interstate compact with Maryland. The states having this interstate compact are Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. (This equivalency only applies to candidates whose primary residence is not Maryland). Any Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) applying for licensure and living in a member state of the Multistate Licensure Compact must take the NCLEX exam in their home state.
