Position Summary

The Communication & PR Strategist of public relations & communications works independently along with the other Communication & PR Specialist I to draft the annual PR and communications media plan in advance, working alongside the service line marketing team independently on developing strategies. The Communication & PR Strategist is responsible for the development and management of an editorial timeline and calendar for, writing, and production, of a wide variety of high-priority internal and external communications.

The Communication & PR Strategist also determines the strategy for the editorial content and helps guide and coach the junior staff members on strategic content marketing as well as media placement timelines. Communication & PR Strategists are expected to help guide, coach, and set processes among junior staff peers.

Executive Communications and writing in each unique executive\xe2\x80\x99s tone is crucial. Must be able to discern and learn differences in tone and voice for up to 6 different executives. In addition, the Communication & PR Strategist will be independently responsible for coordinating media moments and ribbon-cuttings for primarily clinics overseeing budget, coordination of executives and message points and signing vendor contracts to ensure a smooth media event.

The Communication & PR Strategist is expected to independently take the initiative to recommend communications tactics and write communications plans to support strategic marketing plans and initiatives. Assignments may include expert interviews with physicians, executives, and patients, for articles, press releases, etc. Solid writing skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously to completion on time and meeting deadlines are critical.

Supports the Director, of public relations & communications and maintains collaborative relationships with the marketing team, across the various workstreams of Brand/Digital, Service Line, and B2B/Outreach. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of MemorialCare and each of its entities. The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but not limited to, customer service, patient\xe2\x80\x99s rights, confidentiality of information, environment of care and MemorialCare initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong, versatile copywriting and editing; ability to creatively translate ideas and concepts into content that communicates key messages and achieves strategic objectives to all key stakeholder audiences.
  • Writes and produces high-profile senior executive and governing board communications, and/or presentations, for significant internal and external events. This will include, but not limited to: scripts, presentations, articles, letters, press releases, annual reports, etc.
  • Maintain brand voice and editorial continuity and consistency among all communications; write or edit, proofread, and disseminate informational materials to promote MemorialCare.
  • Researches, interviews, develops by-line articles, press releases and media pitches
  • Pitches the media and develops relationships with key outlets to build reputation of MemorialCare
  • Proofs and edits all copy prior to submittal for production and performs final proof and edits of marketing materials.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in specified program areas/healthcare.
  • Supports director by contributing ideas for communication plans, initiatives, researching and recommending concepts that build awareness and reputation of the brand.
  • Consults with and advises internal clients regarding communication needs.
  • Must be able to work independently, make own decisions and demonstrate initiative.
  • Support junior staff members by offering feedback and guidance on projects
  • Timely writing and production of communication pieces to maximize opportunities.
  • Knowledge and use of Associated Press Style guidelines.
  • Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize as needed.
  • Functions as additional resource for the department by attending marketing events, physician presentations, and sales meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of healthcare copywriting experience and collateral production is essential; including writing marketing materials, biographies, articles and press releases. Experience with graphic design is preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in communications, journalism, English or public relations.
