Job Description

Achieve Brown County is recruiting a full-time Communications & Engagement Manager to join our team. This role was formally titled Communications Manager but has been updated to Communications & Engagement Manager. Our current Communications Manager is leaving ABC to pursue a new opportunity which is the reason for the vacancy.

This role is a full-time, permanent position and reports to the Executive Director. The salary for the role is $50,000-$60,000 annually. The ideal candidate for this role lives in Brown County and is connected in our community. They have a strong background in communications, storytelling, and graphic design and prefer a role with lots of variety, many moving projects, and the opportunity to do both relational work and desk work. They are up for a challenge, open to leading projects and teams, and are passionate about transforming systems so they work better for young people.

Other time off benefits include 2 personal days, 3 flex holidays, 6 company holidays (Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day After Thanksgiving) and an End of Year Office Closure from December 24-January 1. ABC also has two company volunteer days, one on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and one on a day before our End of Year Office Closure. Lastly, we offer summer hours from Memorial Day through Labor Day where we close at 1:00pm on Fridays.

position overview:

The Communications & Engagement Manager reports to our Executive Director and fills a critical role on the Collective Impact Partnership backbone team. The role is primarily focused on communications and branding, including graphic design. This crucial role ensures Partners and our community stay informed of collective goals, project progress, impact, and that there is shared understanding of our mission, vision, and purpose. Another key piece of this position is engagement and mobilization of Partners. This will include outreach and relationship building as well as design and facilitation of various meetings or ongoing workgroups. The person in this position will be leading projects and people without formal authority. This role is both internal and external facing and will have frequent engagement with all paid team members as well as individuals and organizations from a variety of sectors and backgrounds. This person may directly manage interns or volunteers to support their role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



communication & storytelling (50%)

Oversee and manage communications, marketing, public relations, and media strategies. Produce content (written, video, photography) to regularly tell our story through our website, social media (Facebook, LinkedIn), newsletters, data reports, annual reports etc. Regularly capture photos, sound and video content etc. and edit these pieces for use. Engage with staff and partner organizations to generate and grow our library of photography, video content, and written content for regular use in storytelling; edit content pieces to produce a finished product. Seek content from staff and partners to produce blog posts, electronic newsletters, and data reports. Support content creation for donor solicitations (written, electronic appeals) and stewardship activities. Strategically work to build a broad public understanding of our mission, vision and purpose. Ensure Partners have toolkits and means to communicate their role and engagement with us. Track and measure our effectiveness in communications, marketing etc. using insights and analytics from Google, WordPress, Constant Contact, and social media to support message refinement. Pitch stories, events, and mission specific issues, write op-eds, and proactively pursue media engagement (TV, newspapers, radio, podcasts, magazines etc.) to secure coverage on a regular basis.

brand management including graphic design, messaging, style & copy (25%)

Maintain a brand and style guide for the Collective Impact Partnership and offer ongoing training and toolkits to staff and partners to ensure its consistent use. Lead graphic design efforts utilizing Canva Pro/Adobe for social media, the website, slide decks and for print materials like brochures, post cards, flyers, annual reports, impact reports, infographics and more; offer templated designs for staff to use when possible. Oversee, maintain, and approve content for the organizational website, including but not limited to brand adherence, copy (on webpages, blogs, impact stories), visuals (photos, infographics, reference images) and backend updates and recurring maintenance. Oversee brand and style consistency across all communication means, both internal and external. Develop and disseminate strategic messaging and talking points for various organization updates, initiatives, or events; ensure staff, volunteer, partner and board member messaging is on point. Manage use of logos and other brand elements, both internally and with donors, partners, and media. Create copy or edit and proof copy to ensure high editorial standards are met across all content outputs.

community engagement (20%)

Develop thoughtful and strategic relationships with reporters, editors, on-air personalities and other media decision makers and serve as the primary liaison between media and any ABC spokesperson(s) for interviews, providing media training and talking points to staff prior to media interviews. Support relationship building and mobilization of Partners across all sectors of the Collective Impact Partnership by holding meetings, having phone calls or attending events with individuals (youth, parents) and organizations from various sectors (education, nonprofit, childcare, government, business, healthcare). Support or lead the design and facilitation of meetings with partners, to include one-on-one meetings, action team meetings, community input sessions, workgroup meetings, project-based meetings, committee meetings and more. Actively contribute to the maintenance and development of our CRM system by regularly keeping constituent records up to date with key information like meeting recaps, contact info, background info etc.

Participate as a member of the team in staff meetings, budgeting, and long-range and strategic planning for the organization, actively supporting or leading strategic initiative implementation. Contribute to a culture of philanthropy and support fund development activities. Represent ABC at local, state, and national meetings, events and trainings. Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of ABC and abide by standards of conduct, policies, and procedures. Stay current on industry trends and competitors and seek out professional development opportunities to support leadership, skill/role and DEI development. Other duties as assigned.

Personal connections e.g. you are a parent, youth guardian or youth care provider. Systems level connections e.g. you participated in youth focused policy advocacy, local government or a collective impact organization.
Preferred work expertise:

5+ years of experience in a communication role with strategy, graphic design, copy/content generation, branding and/or media/public relations experience.

Ability to pass a criminal background check. Valid Wisconsin driver's license, a reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance to get to and from work and to and from meetings, events, and other functions during the workday. Ability to work from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday with occasional hours on nights and weekends.

Work Environment:Our work environment is hybrid. Employees work onsite for their first 90 days. Then employees work in-office a minimum of 3 days a week and should have the ability to work in-office 5 days a week if business requires it. Employees have a standup desk in the office and are issued a laptop for easy movement between our office, community and home. Physical Activities:while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, operate a computer, operate a motor vehicle, and lift and/or move more than 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. At times there may be heavy phone and email volume with extended periods of time working in front of a computer while at other times there may be bending and lifting that would occur outside of the office for setting up or tearing down of events.
