The Art League is a leading nonprofit visual arts organization serving the Washington, DC metro area since 1954. We offer art classes, exhibitions, an art supply store, and community outreach programs that inspire more than 7,000 students and artists each year.

Job Summary

The Art League is hiring a Communications Director to lead all aspects of marketing, PR, and digital communications. This position manages the organization's brand presence, oversees campaigns, and ensures consistent, high-quality storytelling across platforms.

The ideal candidate is a creative communicator who enjoys crafting compelling content, designing visual materials, and leading strategy for a respected nonprofit arts organization.

Responsibilities

Create and manage marketing campaigns and communications strategy. Design and produce materials such as newsletters, press releases, posters, and social media content. Lead digital marketing efforts across email, web, and social media. Track analytics and engagement metrics to measure results. Manage press and media relations. Collaborate with leadership and departments to align messaging and branding. Oversee contractors and a communications specialist. Attend monthly gallery openings and occasional weekend events.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in communications or marketing leadership. Strong writing, editing, and design skills. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Familiarity with digital tools such as WordPress, Mailchimp, and HubSpot. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of or interest in the visual arts is a plus. Must be available for occasional nights and weekends.
