New York Common Pantry (NYCP) is one of the city\xe2\x80\x99s largest food pantries, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization, experiencing rapid growth and expansion at this time. NYCP is a poverty-fighting organization that reduces hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by using a holistic approach to reach over 60,000 distinct people--over 500,000 guests each year. Last year, we served almost 8 million meals. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve. NYCP is seeking a Communications and Social Media Associateto join our Development and Communications Department. The Communications and Social Media Associate is responsible for creating traditional communications materials (e.g., brochures, flyers, newsletters) and online communications (implementing and monitoring New York Common Pantry\xe2\x80\x99s social media strategy, website content, and updates) in order to increase brand awareness, improve marketing efforts and increase engagement. The Communications and Social Media Associate will report to the Communications and Events Manager at the 8 East 109th Street location and work with all departments within New York Common Pantry. The schedule for the position is hybrid - 3 days in-office and 2 days remote/per week. Responsibilities:
  • Maintain social media content calendar by posting at least 3 times on a weekly basis on all platforms, scheduling posts in advance when possible.
  • Promote Pantry programs, volunteer opportunities, fundraising initiatives, leadership/staff, media coverage, and relevant food security/nutrition news.
  • Track social media analytics through Meltwater and record them in a spreadsheet.
  • Maintain and add to the inventory of NYCP photos and videos, including uploading and cataloging within Google Drive to facilitate the use by the departments and the greater organization.
  • Create media lists and distribute materials through Meltwater; assist with media relations calls, and follow up.
  • Make donor communications outreach through MailChimp.
  • Design graphics and marketing materials for programs, drives, fundraising, events, volunteer opportunities, etc. (print and digital).
  • Copywriting assistance for the Pantry Press, Annual Report, Press Releases, etc.
  • Track media placements in a spreadsheet.
  • Conduct monthly staff and volunteer highlight videos.
  • Provide on-site support during video shoots, photoshoots, and media coverage events.
  • Maintain a catalog of participant stories, videos, and photos.
  • Edit and update the website quarterly and more often, as necessary.
  • Attend and document out-of-work-hour events approximately 5-10 times a year (such as fundraising, Program, and distribution events) to support NYCP initiatives and enhance social media content.
  • Manage the NYCP Mailchimp Dev/Comm database; distribute newsletters, donor letters, and other materials via Mailchimp.
  • Create content on the donor database Raiser\xe2\x80\x99s Edge/Baud to support donor communications.
  • Other public relations, advertising, and marketing needs as required by the supervisor.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree is required.
  • A minimum of three years of social/digital marketing and communications experience is required.
  • Fluency with social media platforms, particularly Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Commitment to helping communities in need and NYCP\xe2\x80\x99s work and mission.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and relevant KPIs.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, basic principles of color, and file formatting (via Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.) is required.
  • Excellent writing and editing and verbal communications skills.
  • Basic photography to document events and post on social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in Spanish (or Mandarin) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of software/database systems such as Meltwater, MailChimp, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Raiser\'s Edge/Blackbaud, and WordPress (basic HTML) is required.
  • A forward-thinking mindset to plan and create innovative campaigns.
  • Project management experience with the ability to set and meet deadlines, be detail-oriented and be highly organized.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take the initiative and run projects independently, working with discretion and under pressure as needed.
  • Excellent skills in operating computers and various software packages, including Microsoft Office (Powerpoint and Word).
  • Organized, enthusiastic, and positive with natural leadership qualities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships along with a willingness to set and maintain high standards of performance.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced culture.
