The Florida Commission on Offender Review, formerly known as the Florida Parole Commission, is looking to fill the

Commission Technician II - CS

position. The Commission on Offender Review performs a vital role in Florida's criminal justice system by preserving the autonomy needed in post-release decisions affecting inmates and ex-offenders. The commission functions as a quasi-judicial, decision-making body. Commissioners preside over weekly meetings at the central office in Tallahassee and various other state locations as required by statute. During these public proceedings, the commissioners make a variety of determinations regarding parole and other releases.

Description

This position assists the coordinator in carrying out the mission of the Office of Executive Clemency as set forth, crafted and designed by the Board of Executive Clemency. The incumbent is heavy relied upon and trusted by the coordinator to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.

Examples of Work

Performs the first step of the Clemency process to enter the applicant upon receipt of the clemency application ino the MacNet database including all identifiers and types of clemency. Must research applicant in the various criminal justice databases, including CDC, to ensure proper identification and EC# and DC# are captured. Returns applications that are incomplete or ineligible due to Rules of Executive Clemency with correspondence providing remedy for re-filing. Scans applications and correspondence prior to sending and place into database. Responds to applicants using form templates to questions or problems relative to the acceptance or rejection of applications received via postal service, telephone, fax, web email, or at the request of the coordinator. Forwards file to Clemency Invesgitations for Investigation, enters information into database, and craeates files. Prepare closed status letters to ineligible applicatns which have been reviewed by investigators in Clemency Administration. Answers multiline telphone system, responding to a high volume of callers requesting information regarding the complete process and procedures, and various other subject areas related to clemency. Provides detailed information to callers regarding nthe Rules of Executive Clemency. Assists the Coordinator in the review and proofing documents prepared for the quarterly Clemency Meetings. Assist in the packing and preparing materials for the quarterly Clemency Meetings. Assist in the notification to applicants and/or attorneys of final decision during Clemency Meetings. Attemds Clemency Meeting and assists the Coordinator as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. One year of Executive Clemency experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of proper grammar and general office procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Possess active listening skills with problem solving/critical thinking capabilities. Ability to prepare and maintain confidential and accurate information. Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently. Ability to adapt, be flexible, and multi-task between assignments. Ability to work efficiently in stressful environment. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact well with both internal and external individuals. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to review and edit data and correspondence with accuracy and completeness. Ability to receive and appropriately act upon critique/training in a positive manner. Knowledge of criminal justice/court related documents.
