As a Credit Risk Underwriter (Vice President) on the CCBSI FIG - Diversified Finance Team, you would be responsible for the credit risk management of a portfolio of NBFIs (Non-Bank Financial Institutions) which operate in the following financial sectors: asset management, private equity, payments, sustainable finance, exchanges, lender finance, and other financial services. You will work in partnership with relationship banking, treasury services, syndications, trading, and other product partners to analyze, structure, risk grade, document, and approve credit exposures. You will be an instrumental member of the Risk Management team that will drive deal documentation negotiations / execution, and is also responsible for the on-going monitoring and risk management of an assigned portfolio of credits. This is a national portfolio of clients, thus travel will be required from time to time.

Job Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate the key risk factors associated with clients, transactions, and industry asset classes across an assigned portfolio; develop and articulate a dynamic, forward-looking risk assessment of client companies, transactions, competitive threats, industry and other factors; lead client due diligence meetings; attend client, bank, and other meetings to develop a better understanding of client companies, management teams, and industry sectors; use financial models to incorporate the impact of forward-looking risk assessment on key value drivers; develop and recommend appropriate credit structures relative to risk assessment
  • Drive the Credit Approval Process : Ensure all credit risk and other policies are followed, and credit exposures are approved at the appropriate level; prepare credit approval materials, and present and recommend credits for approval at appropriate level; analyze and negotiate covenants and other terms and conditions as part of a deal team; review and negotiate legal documentation to ensure terms are appropriate and consistent with credit approval
  • On-going Portfolio Management : Provide a well-researched and thoughtful risk assessment of each assigned client on an ongoing basis; ensure risk ratings are accurate and reflect a current forward-looking view of the client; provide early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations; analyze, prepare, and present for approval all required waivers, amendments, and extensions; work in tandem with relationship managers to address questions from loan syndicate members regarding financial and compliance reporting and credit-focused inquiries; prepare and present annual portfolio review material to senior management; work with bank examiners and internal credit reviewers to validate credit quality and integrity of the credit process; work closely with Credit Services to ensure accuracy of credit system data
  • Active Member of Deal Team : Actively engage and contribute thoughts and views as a critical member to the overall, team, understand everyone\'s role on the team; provide professional feedback to teammates; anticipate potential issues and proactively remedy, and be a value-add contributor and successful communicator to all teammates.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • BA/BS degree required, MBA a plus
  • Typically 5 - 7 years of commercial / corporate banking / lending experience including extensive credit, structuring, and marketing experience
  • Completion of a major corporate bank credit training program or equivalent experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Independently productive; able to operate at a highly effective level with minimal day-to-day managerial direction
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients, bankers, product partners, and senior management
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines while multi-tasking

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • Prior experience with underwriting FIG/regulated entities
  • Superior credit, lending, negotiation, and loan documentation skills
  • Knowledge of credit and JPMC (or similar bank) policies and procedures
  • Excellent Excel/PowerPoint/MS Office knowledge
