The Code Enforcement Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to public health and safety. This position involves conducting inspections, enforcing codes, and educating the community about compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Duties
Conduct regular inspections of properties to ensure compliance with zoning laws, building codes, and public health regulations.
Investigate complaints related to code violations and take appropriate enforcement actions.
Prepare detailed reports documenting findings from inspections and investigations.
Collaborate with other regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to FDA regulations and OSHA standards.
Educate property owners and the public on compliance management practices and regulatory reporting requirements.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions taken.
Participate in community outreach programs to promote awareness of code enforcement issues.
Skills
Proficient in report writing with the ability to clearly articulate findings and recommendations.
Knowledge of FDA regulations and public health standards relevant to code enforcement.
Familiarity with OSHA guidelines and safety regulations.
Strong understanding of regulatory reporting processes.
Ability to build relationships with community members and stakeholders for effective communication.
Excellent compliance management skills to ensure adherence to all applicable codes and regulations.
At least four (4) years of prior related experience required
Must have State Certification for Land Use, Legal Issues, Shoreland Zoning, Internal Plumbing, Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Systems, One- & Two-Family Dwelling Code, International Building Code, and International Energy Conservation Code, ASHRAE 90.1(Energy), ASHRAE 62.1(commercial ventilation), ASHRAE 62.2(residential ventilation), and Radon ASTM E-1465 within one year of employment. Must become re-certified every 6 years.
