A day in the life
---------------------
You clock in at 6:00 a.m., review the work orders, and get to work setting up HAAS vertical machining centers for a run of precision plastic manifolds. You verify fixtures, pick the right cutting tools and holders, and load programs using G & M code. First-article inspections follow, using micrometers and other metrology to lock in quality. Through the morning, you move between 3-5-axis mills, a lathe, and specialized equipment--drilling, tapping, reaming, chamfering, and cutting. You monitor productivity, adjust offsets, and troubleshoot to keep throughput at or above plan while reducing scrap and rework. Paperwork stays clean and legible; data sheets, timecards, and inspection records are up to date. By afternoon, you're setting up the next job, communicating machine status to the next operator, and tidying a safe, orderly workstation before you head out at 4:00 p.m.
