Job Description

The Clinical Educator oversees clinical education, training, and professional development for nursing and clinical staff. This role ensures delivery of evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care across both medical and behavioral health services. The Clinical Educator fosters a collaborative, supportive learning environment and strengthens clinical competence in diverse areas, including primary care, mental health, substance use disorder, chronic disease management, and care delivered by licensed staff and unlicensed clinical support staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing education programs for medical, behavioral health, and unlicensed clinical support staff (e.g., medical assistants, behavioral health technicians, peer support specialists). Provide orientation and onboarding for new clinical staff, including nurses, unlicensed clinical support staff, and allied health professionals. Conduct ongoing training sessions, workshops, and competency assessments across medical, mental health, substance use disorder, and supportive care services. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practices, regulatory requirements, and clinical guidelines relevant to FQHC and community health settings. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to identify learning needs and design educational interventions that integrate medical, behavioral health, and support staff roles. Monitor and document staff compliance with mandatory training, certifications, and competency requirements. Participate in QA/QI initiatives and provide education to support performance improvement plans Assist in the development and standardization of clinical policies, procedures, and workflows across medical, behavioral health, and unlicensed support services. Provide guidance and support to staff on complex clinical and behavioral cases, patient education, and care protocols. Assist with onboarding and continuing education for grant-related programs, including MAT, behavioral health, chronic disease management, and primary care initiatives. Evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions and modify content as needed. Support staff in maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with EMR and behavioral health record systems. Collaborate with leadership to implement initiatives that improve patient outcomes, clinical quality, and staff performance. Serve as a resource for clinical staff, promoting a culture of safety, quality, and continuous learning. Attend departmental, interdisciplinary, and regulatory meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:



Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, College, or University. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Preferred. Current license/registration as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of three to five years' experience in primary care, behavioral health, or community health/FQHC settings. Documented Experience in staff education, training, or professional development required. Experience training unlicensed clinical support staff preferred. Experience with substance use disorder, mental health, or homeless populations preferred. The ability to develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nursing and unlicensed clinical support staff across medical and behavioral health services. Must demonstrate strong communication, organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills, and be able to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams. The role requires knowledge of regulatory, and grant requirements related to FQHC operations; competency in EMR systems, behavioral health documentation, and quality improvement processes; and an understanding of current nursing protocols, standards, and the PCMH model of care. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with the ability to work with IT staff to retrieve data for reporting, is essential. Must have a valid Connecticut driver's license and available vehicle to use. Travel within the State of Connecticut is required on a regular basis.
