Job Description


Summary:
The Clinical Manager reports to the Administrative Director of Surgical and Ambulatory Services and is responsible for translating and supporting the goals objectives policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Care Clinics into action within the framework of the Hospitals and Lifespans mission and vision statements. Areas of administrative and clinical responsibility include Immunology the TB Clinic and Suite C Clinics Diabetes Education as well as the Kidney Stone Discharge and Residents Medical Clinics. Also has clinical responsibility for Mens Health.

Responsibilities:
In partnership with the Administrative Director assists in the development of department goals and operational objectives. Recommends and implements procedures to attain established goals and carry out daily clinic operations. Evaluates effectiveness of operations and recommends changes as appropriate.

Maintains collaborative relationships with hospital nursing department peers in maintaining Magnet standards as the foundation for professional nursing practice.

Monitors and modifies patient and provider scheduling based on availability of resources (staffing space time) and urgent or emergent situations. Coordinates provision of clinic services with those of other hospital departments ancillary services and outside agencies and healthcare providers.

Develops monitors and evaluates productivity standards for current and new programs. Works with the Business Manager to ensure appropriate documentation and to optimize revenue. Collaboratively evaluates requests to provide new services.

Ensures the development evaluation and updating of clinic policies procedures and standards. Ensures appropriate input from medical staff and others.

Works collaboratively with the Administrative Director and the physician providers in all ambulatory clinical settings to identify opportunities to enhance clinical outcomes and increase patient safety for the identified populations. Has the delegated authority to make decisions in the areas of patient care delivery human resource management and budgetary development and compliance.

In partnership with the Administrative Director ensures the development and implementation of quality assurance activities within the Department. Ensures compliance with regulatory and organization specific environmental and safety standards in collaboration with the Environmental Safety Program Manager and the hospitals quality and safety committees. Participates on hospital departmental and system-wide committees and teams as deemed necessary.

Hires supervises evaluates promotes and counsels staff. Analyzes staffing patterns. Coordinates staffing and nursing personnel information which may indicate personnel needs. Reviews personnel counseling with subordinate supervisors recommending and/or approving personnel actions as needed.

Responsible for the professional development of all employees to their fullest work potential by identifying educational opportunities and growth experiences. Develops employees by monitoring intervening and interacting when appropriate after assessing and evaluating the services and/or clinical care provided.

Works collaboratively with staff and peers including Clinical Nurse Specialists to continually update existing standards of care and ensure educational needs are met. Participates in the orientation of new staff by consulting Staff Development Professionals monitoring and evaluating the performance of new employees.

Collaborates with the Administrative Director to develop and monitor both capital and operating budgets for assigned clinics based on institutionalized fiscal strategies. Completes monthly variance reports and evaluates and adjusts operations accordingly. Responsible to work within clinic budgets. Monitors and controls expenses compared to budget. Evaluates budget variances and takes appropriate action to bring expenses in line with budget.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Masters Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited college or university with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.

Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.

Understands the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island is responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of contemporary professional cursing practice within the legal framework of the Nurse Practice Act.

EXPERIENCE:

Three or more years of progressively responsible clinical experience and demonstrated basic management skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Prolonged sitting standing and walking.

Exposed to all patient elements.

May be required to lift/turn patients and equipment.

Repeated bending squatting stooping.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Direct supervision for up to 80 full-time equivalent personnel.
