The Clinical Intern reports to the Clinical Program Manager and under the direction of the preceptor, the intern will be assigned to roles usually performed by a pharmacist at a Pharmacy Benefit Manager setting.
ESSENTIALS ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend meetings where pharmacist participates. These may include (but not limited): Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee Meeting, Specialty Group Meeting, Clinical Meeting, Customer Clinical / Core Meeting, Operational Staff Meeting.
Present recent literature publication topics related to formulary management, benefit design, medication therapy management, and adherence to medications to clinical staff.
Prepare written communications to members, clients, and pharmacies.
Under Coverage Determination Pharmacist supervision, evaluate on an individual basis coverage determination to determine if the patient meets the criteria outlined in the guidelines or evaluation form and/or clients' stipulations.
Communicate with the doctors regarding patient's coverage determination issues.
Under P&T Committee Pharmacist supervision, prepare: a drug monograph, review prior authorization (PA) form, and update PA list.
Research project development and presentation.
Participate in drug utilization review initiatives when required including the reporting.
Participate in the orientation, training and continuing education of pharmacy staff including pharmacy technicians, interns and students.
Provide education sessions to clinical call center representatives, as required under the supervision of the pharmacist preceptor.
Other projects and duties as assigned.
TRAINING & EDUCATION
Currently enrolled as a 3rd / 4th year Doctor of Pharmacy student in an ACPE-accredited school or recently graduated.
