Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Clinical Dietitian applies medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to promote health and provide nutrition care services in the treatment of disease and restoration of health.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participating in patient satisfaction, quality management, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance. Clinical Dietitian complete nutrition assessments, monitor nutrition care plans, interact with the interdisciplinary team members, and serve as a nutrition resource to internal and external candidates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

CLINICAL DIETITIAN

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Coordinated Program, Dietetic Program, Dietetic Internship or Pre-professional Practice program all accredited by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education (CAADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is required.

Registered Dietitian or RD eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. If RD-eligible, must pass the examination and registration for RD designation within 90-days of hire.

Must be licensed in state of employee\xe2\x80\x99s primary work location within 90 days of hire 3-5 years of clinical nutrition experience is preferred. If working in the outpatient environment, licensure in both states of Oregon and Idaho are required. Basic computer skills including proficiency in an electronic health record.

OUTPATIENT ONCOLOGY DIETITIAN

1. Oncology nutrition experience is preferred.

2. Board certification in Oncology Nutrition (e.g., the CSO credential), preferred.

3. Home health, health education and/or public health experience helpful.

4. Knowledge of performance improvement and cancer treatment and research preferred.

5. Serves on the Cancer Institute\xe2\x80\x99s Performance Improvement Committee, Cancer Committee, and

participates in other Cancer Institute committees, programs, and community activities as directed and/or assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organizational Mission, Core Values, and Vision in behaviors, practices, policies and decisions. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric, as applicable).

Develops, implements and documents plan of care based on assessments of nutrition needs in correlation and collaboration with other health care plans. Develops and implements nutritional care plans for all patients identified to be at significant nutrition risk through the nutritional screening process including the Nutrition-Focused Physical Exam, when applicable.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team or other departments to determine, coordinate, and provide medical nutrition therapy. Evaluates and documents the effectiveness of nutritional intervention and provides follow up for continuity of care. Provides effective hand-off communications between team members.

Provides individual diet counseling for patient/family as needed. Compiles appropriate education materials. Translates scientific research into meaningful instruction for clients. Provides in-service and nutrition education for the healthcare team members. Serves as a liaison between the Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) department and individual patient care units as applicable to your service line.

Practices within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Scope and Standard of Practice, and state licensure laws.

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and follows the organizations policies and procedures.

Good interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with a broad range of customers. May require travel between health system sites.
