The City of Grandville Michigan seeks a qualified individual for the Assistant Superintendent position in its municipal Clean Water Plant. The plant is a modern, state-of-the-art facility that recently underwent a $17 million solids handling and efficiency upgrade project which received multiple awards.
Essential Job Functions:
assessing and monitoring department operations; participating in regulatory compliance inspections; recording, reporting, and compiling data as required; assisting with the administration of the department budget; personnel management; and addressing complaints or other issues related to departmental policies and services. Minimum Qualifications:
a high school diploma/GED supplemented by formal coursework in biology, engineering, or a field related to the work; and four (4) years of supervisory experience in municipal water and wastewater operations; Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to pass a background check, pre-employment physical, and drug test.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
prior experience planning, organizing and administering comprehensive water and wastewater services and programs. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and codes. State of Michigan Municipal Wastewater Operators License A or the ability to obtain licensure within one (1) year of employment.

CLEAN WATER PLANT ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating and leading the City's Clean Water Treatment Plant facilities and related appurtenances within its sanitary sewer collection system including regulatory requirements, budgeting, rate setting, capital planning, employee and contractor scheduling and supervision, and workplace safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Identifies capital needs and coordinates the purchase, maintenance and disposition of equipment, vehicles and supplies; develops specifications and oversees the bid and selection process.
Assists with compliance in regard to changing regulations and technology regarding operations and services; researches and recommends new systems and applications for the department.
Manages the collection and preparation of department statistics, records, reports, correspondence and related reporting and compliance requirements.
Provides oversight and quality control and assists with technically advanced or unique situations; reviews and follows up on reports as necessary.
Promotes positive community relations through contacts with citizens and community groups, participation in civic activities and community education initiatives.; responds to inquiries, addresses complaints or other issues related to departmental policies and services.
Represents and advances the interests of the department through participation and leadership in various local, state, regional and other organizations, including legislative and advocacy efforts.
Maintains cooperative relations with peer agencies and other governmental units and coordinates departmental operations with them to reduce duplication of effort, increase efficiency and maximize the availability of services.
Negotiates and administers formal and informal cooperative agreements and service arrangements.
Keeps abreast of professional developments, new techniques, legislative issues and current events through continued education and professional growth; attends conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.
Contributes to the overall quality of the department's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
