Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented

Estimator

with proven experience in

heavy civil construction

. The Estimator will play a critical role in preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals for projects, including highways, bridges, roadways, dams, excavation, underground utilities, and other infrastructure-related work. This individual will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure competitive and profitable bids.

Responsibilities:

Estimate Development

: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates by analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements for heavy civil construction projects.

Quantity Takeoffs

: Perform detailed takeoffs and review drawings for earthwork, grading, utilities, concrete, structures, and other civil components.

Cost Analysis

: Research and analyze labor, material, and equipment costs while factoring in productivity rates and project-specific variables.

Bid Preparation

: Develop bid proposals, including scope of work, pricing, schedules, and supporting documentation.

Subcontractor and Supplier Coordination

: Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, evaluate bids, and incorporate their inputs into final estimates.

Risk Analysis

: Identify project risks and opportunities and factor these into cost estimates.

Collaboration

: Coordinate with project teams, field staff, and leadership to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with company objectives.

Review and Presentation

: Present estimates and bid strategies to management for review and approval.

Technology and Tools

: Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and industry tools to streamline and enhance the estimating process.

Market Awareness

: Stay informed on market trends, construction methods, and emerging technologies within the heavy civil sector.
Qualifications:

Education

: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.

Experience

: 5+ years of experience as an Estimator in heavy civil construction (highways, bridges, earthwork, dams, underground utilities, etc.).

Technical Skills

: Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Trimble, or similar tools. Strong knowledge of Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Industry Knowledge

: Familiarity with DOT (Department of Transportation) and public works projects is highly desirable.

Analytical Skills

: Ability to interpret complex plans, specifications, and project data.

Communication Skills

: Excellent written and verbal communication for subcontractor outreach and internal reporting.

Organizational Skills

: Strong ability to manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines with precision.

Team Player

: Collaborative mindset with a strong work ethic and problem-solving attitude.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer. Some site visits may require walking, climbing, and standing in varying weather conditions.
