Civil Engineering Technician and Wetland Scientist
Enman Kesselring Consulting Engineers has an immediate opening for an Engineering Technician and Wetland Scientist. The expectation is that the applicant is an established professional with either a Vermont Designer License for water and wastewater systems or is an experienced Wetland Scientist. Once hired, the applicant would be expected to train to acquire the credentials of the other discipline within a short period of time.
This position will be involved on land development projects to conduct fieldwork for surveying, soil classification, natural resource assessments; wetland delineations, and preparing environmental permit applications such as Wetland Permits and Potable Water Supply/Wastewater Disposal Permits.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to customer service, professional written and verbal communication skills, and a desire to learn new skills. Familiarity with State of Vermont permit programs and prior experience is beneficial. On the job training will be available.
We are a team of civil engineers who work with public and private sector clients on a wide range of projects in the commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, and public sectors.
Responsibilities include:
Technical Support to engineering staff,
Field services including topographic surveys, wetland delineations, natural resource assessments, and construction phase observations,
AutoCAD drafting and design of potable water and wastewater system
Performing standard civil engineering design, calculations, and quantity estimates under the supervision of an engineer,
Preparation of various Federal, State, and local permit applications.
Conducting wetland delineations and natural resource area surveys based on state and federal requirements (e.g., US Army Corps of Engineers - USACE and Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation - VT DEC);
Conducting rare, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping, and vegetation cover classification;
Technical writing and report preparation;
Working knowledge of local, state and federal environmental permitting in Vermont;
Applicant Qualifications:
2-5 years experience preferred, all welcome to apply
Bachelor's or Associates Degree in relevant field,
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills,
Attention to detail,
Ability to collaborate positively with teammates,
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a dynamic environment,
Self-motivated with good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines,
Relevant experience in wetlands, civil / site design, utilities, and/or permitting,
Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D software and Microsoft Office suite,
Professional wetland scientist experienced flagging wetlands and natural resources for land use development projects;
Expertise with operating GPS and/or Total Station survey equipment;
Ability to prepare wetland data forms and functions and value reports in support of permit applications and prepare wetland permit applications;
Working knowledge of regulatory permit program including Army Corps of Engineers, Vermont Wetland Program, Vermont Drinking Water Division, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Act 250;
