The Child Support Specialist Trainee performs entry?level work in Child Support Enforcement while completing structured classroom and on?the?job training. The role builds foundational knowledge of child support laws, regulations, policies, and BCSE programs. Under close supervision, the trainee learns to process cases, develop case information, issue initial notices to non?custodial parents, and gradually progress toward independently managing a caseload. Training includes locating parents and assets, calculating support obligations, researching legal sources, and preparing case materials for BCSE attorneys. Monthly evaluations track progress. The position also responds to routine customer service inquiries, resolves basic case issues, prepares standard correspondence, and maintains strict confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in formal classroom and on?the?job training to learn child support laws, regulations, policies, and BCSE procedures.
Perform beginning?level casework, including case processing, case development, and issuing initial notices to non?custodial parents.
Develop skills needed for independent caseload management under close supervision.
Complete monthly evaluations and progress reviews with supervisory staff.
Learn to locate parents, assets, and income sources and apply the child support calculation formula.
Research statutes, court opinions, rules, and regulations to support case development.
Compile case information by reviewing public documents, interviewing customers, and gathering data from other agencies.
Prepare case files for BCSE attorneys.
Respond to customer service inquiries and resolve routine case issues.
Draft routine correspondence and maintain confidentiality of all case information.

Minimum Qualifications:
Training:
High school diploma or equivalent.
AND
Experience:
Four (4) years of clerical and/or paraprofessional experience.
OR
Substitution:
Successful completion of study from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at a rate of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) credit hours of education.
Special Requirement:
Availability of a vehicle for continuous use may be a requisite of employment.

Probationary period of twelve (12) months - (SPB 3013)
To allow clerical/customer service, and corrections/community corrections experience to substitute for required training or experience.
