for The Academy Child Care Director
Position Overview
As the Director of The Academy at Versailles United Methodist Church, you will provide visionary and hands-on leadership for our faith-based childcare ministry, serving children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. The Director oversees all aspects of The Academy's operations -- educational, administrative, and spiritual -- ensuring a nurturing, safe, and Christ-centered environment that reflects the church's mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Management
Provide strong, compassionate, and organized leadership to all Academy staff.
Model qualities of a good manager -- effective communication, empathy, consistency, and accountability.
Supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers and assistants to maintain excellence in care and education.
Manage daily operations, staffing, and scheduling to ensure compliance with state ratios and Safe Sanctuaries guidelines.
Lead staff meetings and professional development sessions that promote teamwork, problem-solving, and spiritual growth.
Maintain a visible presence in classrooms and throughout the facility to encourage morale and ensure smooth operations.
2. Administrative Oversight
Prepare and manage the Academy's annual budget in collaboration with the Finance Committee and Administrative Council.
Ensure compliance with all state licensing, safety, and employment regulations, maintaining up-to-date records and files.
Recruit, hire, and onboard qualified staff members committed to Christian education and child development.
Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers, addressing questions, concerns, and updates with grace and professionalism.
Order and manage curriculum and educational resources.
3. Educational & Spiritual Leadership
Guide teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum to foster kindergarten readiness and holistic growth.
Integrate Christian teachings, prayer, and values into daily classroom experiences.
Collaborate with the Family Pastor to plan events that strengthen family faith connections (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Graduation).
Promote a culture of love, integrity, and inclusion that supports both children and staff in living out their faith.
4. Church Collaboration
Serve as a member of the church staff team and participate in meetings as needed.
Report to the Senior Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).
Serve as a liaison to The Academy Board and a member of the Administrative Council.
Work with church leadership to align The Academy's mission with the church's Reach, Grow, Send vision.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (preferred).
3+ years of leadership experience in a childcare or early education setting.
Demonstrated management skills: team building, communication, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
Familiarity with state childcare regulations and best practices in early childhood education.
Commitment to Christian values and the mission of Versailles UMC.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary based on education and experience; annual review with potential for increase annually.
Vacation:
1-4 years: 2 weeks
5-8 years: 3 weeks
9+ years: 4 weeks
Comp time available with Lead Pastor approval.
Opportunities for continuing education with prior approval.

Reviews will be made at the end of first 60 days, 90 days and 180 days. Termination of employment, if deemed necessary, can be made anytime during this probationary period.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $37,000.00 per year
