Chess Instructor - Big Chair Chess Club (Think B4U Move)Job Overview



Big Chair Chess Club (BCCC) is seeking a

passionate, reliable, and energetic Chess Instructor

to inspire youth and adult learners through the strategic game of chess. In this role, you will teach chess as both a competitive discipline and a life-skills tool--helping students develop critical thinking, decision-making, focus, and sportsmanship through our

Always Think B4U Move

philosophy.

This is a

paid instructional position

offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in schools, libraries, community centers, and enrichment programs--particularly in underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities



Plan and deliver engaging chess lessons aligned with Big Chair Chess Club curriculum and teaching philosophy Teach students of varying ages and skill levels (beginner through intermediate/advanced) Create a safe, positive, and structured learning environment that promotes confidence and curiosity Manage classroom behavior and facilitate group activities effectively Provide individualized instruction and small-group coaching as needed Encourage sportsmanship, strategic thinking, patience, and respectful communication Track student progress and provide constructive feedback Support tournaments, chess clubs, and enrichment events when scheduled Communicate professionally with parents, site coordinators, and program leadership

Qualifications



Strong working knowledge of chess rules, tactics, and basic strategy Experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, or mentoring students (chess or related educational settings preferred) Comfortable working with

children and youth

in structured environments (schools, after-school programs, camps, libraries) Strong communication skills and the ability to explain concepts clearly Classroom management or group facilitation experience Ability to adapt lessons to different learning styles and age groups

Required Certifications & Compliance



Must be able to

pass all required background checks

(school district and/or state requirements)

SafeSport Certification required

(must be completed within 30 days of hire) Reliable transportation to assigned program locations Punctual, professional, and dependable

Preferred (Not Required)



US Chess Federation membership or tournament experience Experience working in after-school or enrichment programs Familiarity with chess tournaments, notation, or competitive play Interest in using chess to teach life skills, critical thinking, or social-emotional learning

Work Schedule



Part-time, program-based hours Sessions typically held

after school, evenings, or weekends

Locations may include schools, libraries, community centers, and special events
