Job Description







This is a part-time, non-benefited position working the academic year approximately 19 working hours per week. $20/hour.
OVERVIEW:
Bismarck State College is dedicated to student success. This on campus position is student-centered to provide high quality campus services and hands-on learning experiences.
This position is directly accountable and responsible to the Assisant Dean of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences.


Position Description & Details





Responsible for preparing reagents and equipment for labs, processing and cleanup of reagents and equipment after labs, maintaining adequate supplies, organizing, and maintaining the stockroom in a safe manner, and other lab duties as assigned.
  • Maintain and manage chemistry laboratory stockroom. Health and safety of faculty and students require laboratory stockroom to be clean, safe, and organized.

  • Prepare reagents and equipment required for freshman and sophomore chemistry labs and chemistry activities under the supervision of a faculty member.

  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals. Chemicals and solutions are to be properly labeled.

  • Ensure Material Safety Data Sheets are readily available for faculty and students. These sheets should be reviewed routinely.

  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure proper storage of hazardous waste under the supervision of the department chair.

  • Keep an accurate hard copy inventory of equipment, chemicals, and supplies. Maintain adequate supplies.

  • Periodically inspect and stock first aid equipment as appropriate.

  • Keep water purification system running.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by the department chair.

  • Continuously \xe2\x80\x93 66-100% - Use hands dexterously, talk or hear.
  • Frequently \xe2\x80\x93 34-66% - Stand, walk, or sit, reach with hands and arms, left up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally \xe2\x80\x93 1-33% - Climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch, or crawl, lift up to 25 pounds.


Minimum Requirements




  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated positive customer service skills, and ability to relate to people of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Good computer software skills \xe2\x80\x93 Microsoft Office Suite, email, and electronic calendar (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills and attention to detail.


Preferred Qualifications




  • Strength in the following: freshman and sophomore chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.
