The Chaplain is responsible for providing assessment, guidance and support for the spiritual needs of patients, families and employees. The Chaplain coordinates and assists with religious or spiritual services within the healthcare facilities.
Provides assessment, guidance and support for the spiritual care of patients, families and employees
+ Communicates availability of spiritual, religious and cultural support to patients and their families, as well as staff
+ Collaborates with treatment teams in providing cultural, emotional and spiritual/religious patient and family centered care
+ Acts as a consultant for the clinical teams, service lines and other departments to develop and implement improvement initiatives
+ Participates in rounding or care team discussions as requested; provides crisis intervention services in times of death and other tragic events and responds to emergency situations as needed
Practices evidence-based care and takes responsibility for continued professional development
+ Seeks consultation with interdisciplinary peers on expanded options for spiritual support
+ Builds cooperative relationships and open communication with healthcare personnel and area leadership
+ Completes and maintains proper documentation of all contact and consults provided
+ Maintains up to date knowledge of community spiritual resources and contacts, communicating information to patients, families, and staff as necessary
Provides counsel and religious services within the healthcare facilities
+ Participates regularly in team conferences and other events as requested
+ Facilitates support services and develops education and training programs as needed for staff
+ Conducts and arranges religious worship services in chapels or other locations for patients unable to attend regular services
+ Contacts and consults with clergy at the request of patients and/or their families as necessary
+ Acts as a representative of the religious community to the medical facility
Education:
Master's Degree Divinity, Spirituality, Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field of study
Experience:
2 In pastoral care within a clinical setting
Skills:
Excellent listening and verbal communication skills in order to speak with people in times of tragedy, crisis, and emotional upheaval
Excellent interpersonal skills to speak with people of all ages and faiths and help them open up about their most intimate problems and emotions
Analytical skills to evaluate patients and assess their spiritual needs
* Leadership skills, in order to effectively lead prayers and religious services
