We are hiring a Certified Coder to review medical records to ensure accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines and medical standards. This position is full-time and offers a hybrid work schedule.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review medical records for accurate information and assign codes (ICD-10, CPT) which represent diagnoses and procedures.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations while maintaining high accuracy and efficiency in generating claims for proper reimbursement.
Monitor and maintain current knowledge of updated medical coding guidelines.
Educate medical providers in proper coding for diagnoses and procedures.
Assist in research and maintenance of billing records to include timely review, submission and follow-up of billing charges.
Complete other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent, required.
Certified Professional Coder certification, required.
Proficient with medical codes.
Basic knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.
Basic knowledge of insurance billing.
Proficient computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
Experience in a neurosurgery or orthopedics setting, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization and provide exemplary customer service to patients.
Ability to listen effectively, as well as strong communication skills.
Must demonstrate professionalism at all times.
Demonstrate strong judgment.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team and meet deadlines.
Maintain regular attendance.
Ability to reach with hands and arms to operate office and/or medical equipment.
Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to life and push up to 5lbs on a regular basis and up to 25lbs on occasion.
Ability to travel to clinic locations, as needed.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Works in a hybrid environment. May work remotely some days or may work inside in a medical clinic office setting. Medical clinic office setting will be a clean, well-lit area. May deal with unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or patient activity.
Job may require contact with clinic staff, adjacent hospital staff, and/or patients; potential exposure to communicable and/or infectious diseases.
