ClearWater Conservancy is a locally founded, nationally accredited land trust organization that has been protecting and restoring central Pennsylvania's natural resources for forty-five years. The organization connects people and places through land conservation, stream restoration, and environmental outreach efforts to support a healthy, resilient region for all. It's an exciting time to work for ClearWater Conservancy - in 2026, we will move operations to a 10-acre property on Spring Creek in Centre County, Pennsylvania.

The Centred Outdoors program is an invitation to everyone, of every age, background, or fitness level, to explore and enjoy outdoor recreation destinations throughout Centre and surrounding counties. Through guided outings and wellness activities, Centred Outdoors participants experience the connection between time spent outdoors, improved health and wellness, and the need for local land and water conservation efforts. Programs are free and open to the public.

About the Position:



ClearWater Conservancy seeks a committed, enthusiastic, and community-oriented Assistant Coordinator to assist the Program Coordinator in the overall administration, planning, and execution of Centred Outdoors and related programming. The ideal candidate will play an instrumental role in supporting the expansion of our education and outreach programs, developing high-quality programming and generating innovative ideas for future program growth. A successful candidate will display exceptional awareness and understanding of the environmental & outdoor education industry, as well as a desire to transfer this knowledge into culturally relevant, place-based, and community-centered programs.

Job Responsibilities:



Assist in the coordination of Centred Outdoors events and activities, including the scheduling of dates and locations, partners, volunteers and activity leaders. Host Centred Outdoors programs by guiding educational hikes with relevant topics for each location; designing and hosting other community-oriented outdoor programs; providing prompt, courteous customer service to all participants; ensuring the safety and wellbeing of program participants in remote locations; and clearly communicating and representing ClearWater Conservancy's mission at all public events Assist in the implementation, growth, and diversification of the Centred Outdoors Outdoor Leadership Cohort Work closely with Centred Outdoors staff and volunteers to build a welcoming and respected presence in the community In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, help foster and create relationships and partnerships with local organizations to collaborate and offer a diverse array of future programs and events Provide back-up to the rest of the ClearWater Outreach team as requested or necessary, such as answering general inquiry telephone calls and supporting events or outreach opportunities. Other priorities as assigned by the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications and Skills:



1-3 years of experience in outdoor recreation, environmental science, environmental education[EC7] [OS8] , or related field and a High School Diploma/GED; or Bachelor's Degree in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education, Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Management, Environmental Science, or related field Strong coordination, correspondence, and time management skills Willingness to work flexible hours including evening, weekends, and early mornings Familiarity with Pennsylvania Natural History, Outdoor Recreation, Ecology, and Conservation are preferred Active Wilderness First Aid Certification is preferred Candidate must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and a reliable personal vehicle for transportation to and from work and meetings

Work Environment:



This position is based at ClearWater's headquarters, currently at 2555 N. Atherton St. in State College, PA. In addition to office work, the Centred Outdoors Assistant Program Coordinator will spend time in the field, at community events, at community meetings, and at ClearWater hosted events. Local travel within ClearWater's service area of Centre and surrounding counties, using a personal vehicle, is often required. Infrequent overnight travel within the state or the country for professional development is not required but may be helpful.

Physical Demands:



The responsibilities of this position require indoor desk work, the ability to comfortably hike on uneven and/or steep terrain, the ability to comfortably hike up to 8 miles, and the ability to physically manage supplies for tabling and other events while navigating uneven outdoor terrain, climbing stairs, and lifting at least 30 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
