MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid license for at least three years.

2. Must complete school bus/van driver classroom training.

3. If licensed in Delaware less than 5 years, provide driving record from all other state(s) in which you were licensed for the past 5 years

4. If licensed in another state, provide 5 year driving record from home state, complete PA/DE school bus/van driver training (class and on-the-road driving), and meet all other requirements (annual physical, TB tests, drug screening, background check, etc.)

5. No more than 3 points on your license in the past five (5) years

6. No conviction for Driving Under Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, or suspension, revocation, or license disqualification for moving violations, in the past five 5) years. Never convicted of a drug related crime

7. Never convicted of a Class A or Class B felony. Felony based on causing death, felony sexual offense, or felony against public administration (bribery, etc.)

8. Must not have had any portion of the sentence for any other felony conviction extending into the last five years

9. Never convicted of any crime against a child

10. Must not have ever been convicted of any drug-related crime.

11. Must pass a successful pre-employment drug screening test;

12. Must pass a successful background check including child protection registry. Child protection registry check (from state of residence);

13. Criminal background affidavit;

14. State Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting for state and Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background checks (on district form);

15. Must have TB testing (initially) and school bus driver physical (initially and annually). Delaware school bus driver physical with TB screening

16. Must attend School bus driver classroom training

17. Past five years driving record from the state where licensed and provide annual updates to Supervisor.

18. Physical must be completed (at your initial expense) on the State of Delaware/PA School Bus Driver Physical form. Keep your receipt (full or partial reimbursement for out-of-pocket physical exam fees may be possible after you work for us for 90 days). The original, signed form must be submitted to the Office. Notify Supervisor if you have had a recent USDOT physical.

19. Previous employer verification and work history of all driver positions in past 10 years.

DUTIES: Drives any type and size of school van for the Safe transport of students to and from school and school related functions on regularly scheduled routes.

SALARY: Commensurate with appropriate salary schedule

MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month position

Performance Responsibilities

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

\xc2\xb7 Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.

\xc2\xb7 Report to work as scheduled or before in order to prepare the bus and start the route on time regardless of weather conditions.

\xc2\xb7 Meet the requirements of the regular daily bus route for the purpose of transporting children to and from school in a safe and timely fashion.

\xc2\xb7 Operates assigned school buses on assigned trips in accordance with printed trip schedules and in accordance with specified stop, sequence, and time schedules.

\xc2\xb7 Complete safety and operational check of the school van and any special equipment before all trips. Report any malfunctions concerning the van and/or special equipment immediately.

\xc2\xb7 Boards, transports, and discharges passengers.

\xc2\xb7 Responsibility to maintain and rigidly adhere to the bus route schedule for both pickup and return home

\xc2\xb7 May assist passengers into and out of van as required by Transportation Services Department policy and procedure.

\xc2\xb7 Develops via-directions and maintains and updates current student and trip manifests.

\xc2\xb7 Responsibility to report any hazardous conditions observed along the scheduled route and route deviations

\xc2\xb7 Monitors the operational condition and safety of vehicle accessories of assigned buses on a daily basis; monitors gauges and sensors while operating a van and reports discrepancies to initiate corrective actions.

\xc2\xb7 Practices non-aggressive, defensive driving techniques.

\xc2\xb7 Monitors, conducts, and responds to communications with the Transportation Operations staff via two-radio.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains effective professional working relationships with pupils, parents, and district staff.

\xc2\xb7 Responsibility to be courteous, pleasant and demonstrate respect for all students, school personnel, parents and the general motoring public.

\xc2\xb7 Be fair and firm with discipline of your passengers and be mindful of the safety of student riders when they are approaching, entering, riding and leaving the bus

\xc2\xb7 Enforces district policy and procedure in maintaining discipline on vans.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of rules pertaining to the transportation of school children with responsibility to advise the students on the van of the rules and the infractions.

\xc2\xb7 Renders first aide to passengers on an emergency basis.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains working knowledge of and complies with laws and regulations pertaining to pupil transportation.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains cleanliness of windows and interior of van on a daily basis; may wash van exterior.

\xc2\xb7 Ensures familiarity with assigned trips before transporting passengers; may dry-run new trips.

\xc2\xb7 Periodically participates in mandated meetings and in-service programs during traditional and non-traditional workdays and work hours as required by the department.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains and supports standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline policy approved by the Board of Education.

\xc2\xb7 Follow all State and Federal rules and regulations. Adherence to the procedures, policies, and practices presented in the \xe2\x80\x9cSchool Bus/Van Drivers\xe2\x80\x99/Aides\xe2\x80\x99 Handbook.\xe2\x80\x9d

\xc2\xb7 Responsibility to immediately report unusual incidents or events and to follow the directions provided by the Dispatcher.

\xc2\xb7 Performs other duties reasonably related to the job class.

\xc2\xb7 Read and interpret maps, compass directions, schedules, student rosters and procedural instructions.

\xc2\xb7 Rapidly learn routes and the operations of equipment related to duties.
